Should Professional Athletes and Musical Artists Considered Role Models? – Nia Bey

Well I think professional athletes and musical arstist should and shouldn’t be considered as role models. They should because they worked hard to be where they are at now. That shows the children who looks up to them that you can do anything if you jus work hard. Another reason why they should is because they still go on even with all the bad things that are said about them. They work even harder to prove those people wrong. The reason that they shouldn’t is because some of the careless things they do. For an example some music artist rap about things like drugs and children listen to these things and thinks their suppose to sell drugs. So sometimes professional music artists and athletes shouldn’t be considered as role models.

What Other African Country Would Nia Bey Like to Visit?

I still would want to go back to South Africa because I still believe that I have some unfinished business to handle in South Africa. I believe that I can do more to help them. Now I know a little bit more about advocating I can go over there and advocate for HIV/AIDS. I could help spread the word. I also want to go back to South Africa because the people there made me feel like I was apart of their family. The people in South Africa are so happy ; that makes me happy. I also want to go to South Africa because they need to see that Journey for Change isn’t just another organization who just starts a project and just say we did what we could. We want to show that we are consistant on what we do. I also believe that South Africa still needs help . I think I can go over there and give them knowledge and background on everything I know so it could help them. So I would like to go back to South Africa because I truely believe that’s like a second home to me and there is more work we can do.

This Year Bad Winter Season by Nia Bey

Well it’s hard to say that this bad winter is because of global warming because we always have bad snowy winters. I think if it didn’t snow during the winter I would believe that was because of global warming. But there are other things that are caused by global warming. We can help those things by keeping our planet clean. One way we can keep our planet clean is by recycling. If we recycle we wouldn’t have to have these dumps full of trash that’s going to eventually break down into our soil. Another thing we can do is not litter. Trash eventually gets into our ocean. The last thing I think we could do is get the word out by passing out brochures, flyers and by making posters; and we should definitely write letters to our elected officials to address the problem.

Nia Bey’s Thoughts About Cathy Black, The Ex-NYC’s School Chancelor

Yes, I think people have the right to be upset because how can Cathy Black, the ex-NYC School Chancellor try to fight for parents trust in New York City public schools if she sends her children to private school. That sends a message that she must not like something about the public school. I also think people have the right to be mad because many people can’t afford to send their children to private school.  They have no choice. I think she needs to set a better example and show that New York City public schools are safe and good for her children to attend.

The public schools have many problems that need to be fixed. Cathy could be the one to bring about change. She might, for example, work toward making sure the schools have enough supplies and equipment because of her business background. Our schools are in need of adequate security. This is in addition to the lack of motivation and encouragements coming from the teachers and school administrators.

South Sudan Break Away from Sudan by Nia Bey

This is an important an historic moment for the south Sudanese people because they went through a war for twenty years. Sudan’s independent history has been mostly dominated by cruel warfare which divided the country on racial, religious, and regional grounds. The wars damaged their economy and caused lack of food which leads to malnutrition. Lack of investment during this time mostly in south Sudan made a generation lost access to basic health services, education, and jobs. But During The year 2000 al-Turabi, the Sudanese opposition leader, introduced a bill that limited the powers of the president. Overall this is a historic and important of the country’s moment because most history was based off of war and how the country was falling apart but them finally getting their independence is  one step closer  for the people to make  themselves a better life and most importantly make their country  an  better  place.

Nia Bey on The Public Outcry for Gun Control

Yes, I think there needs to be better gun control laws because now basically anybody can get a gun as long as they have a license, money, and they take a class. But I think there should be  laws that allow the gun dealers to do a quick background check on the person who wants to buy a gun. I also think there should be better gun control laws because it would reduce the number of violence and crimes. It would also keep lots of people safe. If there were better gun control laws people wouldn’t have to live their lives in fear of getting. As a citizen I can help this issue by getting the word out like writing to the government and also go to schools and other public places and speak about this issue. I would also go to the gun dealers and ask them to do background checks on anyone who’s buying a gun.  This information would be shared with the government.

Given the Recent Situation in Egypt, How Does Nia Bey Feel to Live in a Democracy?

I think it’s important to live in a democracy because we are a part of the government even though we’re not dealing directly with issues that the government deals with. Also a democracy has more privileges for the people than a dictatorship. In a democracy the people vote for their leaders while in a dictatorship the leaders aren’t chosen by the people. In a democracy the people’s voices are heard. In a dictatorship the people do not participate in the affairs of government.
