South Sudan Break Away From Sudan by Kristian Capers

I think that it is historic for any country to gain it’s independence. Especially for a country that had bloodshed, war, and ethnic cleansing. Just like in America, when we got our independence it was historical. It is historical because it represents a new era. Also it will serve as a test for the new independent country. The test will determine wether or not the country is capable of being independent and making decisions by itself or not. Everyone hopes that the country will be able to but there is no way of knowing for sure.

Given the Recent Situation in Egypt, How Does Kristian Capers Feel About Living in a Democracy?

Under a dictator people lose a lot of rights that we have here in the United States.   Like here in the United States we get to vote for a new president every 4 years.  Under a dictator, the dictator decides when he will step down and usually that doesn’t happen until the death of that person. Under a dictator people have no freedom, they cannot do anything their “leader” does not want them or does not prohibit them to do. In the United States we have freedom of speech, press and everything else you can think of. Under a dictator most likely he won’t want freedom of those things because what he’s doing is inhumane.

What Would Kristian Capers Say to President Obama If He Could Speak With Him?

If I had a chance to chat with President Barack Obama I would ask him about a problem facing this country. I would talk to him not about and external problem facing this country but about an internal one. President Obama is the head of this country and I would ask him about the doubts that a lot of people have about the promises he made during the presidential election. Problem promises… Anyone knows that you should not make promises that you cannot uphold. A big one now is the health care benefits. President Obama is currently working on that one though; it is not going in a way that works for everyone. Republicans are trying to get benefits that work in the way of actually benefiting ONLY the upper and middle class. In my opinion benefits are needed for everyone but especially the less fortunate. I would ask the President in the most respectful way, why does it seems like he is not trying as hard as someone who really won’t take no for an answer?

Which Leader Inspires Kristian Capers the most?

My favorite politician is Barack Obama. I know what you’re thinking “typical kid who doesn’t know anything”. Actually I know why I like him and that all I need to know. It is not because he is black; it’s not that simple. I like him because he sets a standard for African Americans. He lets every black person know deep in their hearts “anything is possible”. Barack gives me the “nothing’s impossible” outlook on life. Now I look at everything as if it’s nothing, not because I’m so sure that I can do it but because I won’t give up easily or at all. As long as I want it enough I know that I can achieve any goal. Barack Obama gives me the “Pursuit of Happiness”.

What’s on Kristian’s Mind Today?

I noticed that everything I do in Journey for Change applies to something else in life. I used my knowledge from going to the Holocaust Museum while I was in Washington, DC last November with Journey for Change to write an essay. I got a 4 which is the highest grade in number grading. So any time I go somewhere with Journey for Change I just want the people who make it happen know that I appreciate it.

Why So Many Americans Are Suffering Economically Today – Kristian’s Opinion

I know that America is one of the richest countries. Though I also know that it is suffering among the worst of several other countries, I think that is because our government has their priorities messed up. On both sides of political government that is. Our government should not say Republicans and Democrats covering our problems. They should say the Republicans vs. Democrats. I say this because every time there is a problem that needs to be discussed, they end up taking shots at each other. Now this is just my honest opinion. Whether it is a presidential race or any race for political government, they can never stay on task. I think our government should stop worrying about political parties and work together for a change to stand as one nation and decipher our countries problems at one.

Washington, DC – Kristian’s Experience

This was another wonderful experience. Going to Capitol Hill, Georgetown University and talking to people in Congress was great. I must say that congressman Elijah Cummings is a powerful speaker. He really grabbed me and made me listen to him. I liked how he spoke with passion. I could tell that he suffered when he was younger. Also Congressman Elijah said one thing that I’ll never forget. He said “when people say you are our future, say no we are the now”. Then we went to the senate. We hoped to see the senators meet in the court but they were done for the day. Another thing I liked was visiting Georgetown University. Now that is the college of my dreams. They have so many opportunities, and I’m an opportunist. They also have a very attractive financial aid package. If a student cannot pay for college they will pay for them. So this trip was phenomenal.
