Should Professional Athletes and Musical Artists Considered Role Models? – Kaela Jones

I do think that professionals athletes and musical artists should be considered role models because of what they do. For an example Kobe Bryant is a famous basketball player. Kobe Bryant is a phylantropist and run a charity called The Kobe & Vanessa Bryant Family Foundation for young people. The Kobe Bryant China Fund will partner with the Soong Ching Ling Foundation to raise money within China for education and health programs. Bryant’s existing fund, the Kobe Bryant Family Foundation, will also educate school students in the U.S. about Chinese language and culture. It will pay the salaries of four teachers to teach Mandarin and Chinese culture to middle-school students. Kobe Bryant can be considered a role model because of the good things he is doing. For an example Kobe Bryant is building a school in China and Kobe Bryant seems to enjoy the Chinese kids. He enjoys making them happy. Kobe Bryant is an extraordinary role model. So therefore professionals and musical artists should be considered role models. I think musical artists should be considered role models because musical artists such as Nicki Minaj and Drake music is constantly played on the radio. Kids are going to look up to people music they they hear on the radio. For an example I hear a lot of girls saying they want to be like Nicki Minaj because she is so successful in what she is doing in the music business. And a lot of boys want to be like Drake because he is a good rapper.
So therefore musical artists and professionals athletes can be considered as
role models.

Kaela Jones’ Idea on Automatic Citizenship to Children Born to Illegal Immigrants

The United States Constitution is the supreme law of the United States of America. The Constitution is the framework for the organization of the United States government and for the relationship of the federal government with the states, citizens, and all people within the United States. The government wants to stop granting automatic citizenship to children born in the United States to
illegal immigrants, even though the 14th Amendment to the United States
Constitution clearly states that all people born in the United States are
citizens. The law states that if you are born in the Unites States you should automatically have citizenship. I think that American born children should have automatic citizenship. If the government is not following the constitution, the people living in the United States are going to think they don’t have to follow the laws either. I don’t think its fair because if the government are not following rules we are not going to follow rules either.

What Other African Country Would Kaela Jones Like to Visit?

If I had the chance to go to any African country I would go to Ghana. I say Ghana because since I came back from South Africa I wanted to visit Ghana. I want to visit Ghana because of the wonderful stories I’ve heard from my fellow Journey for Change 1 ambassadors. Many told stories about what they witnessed when they visited Ghana. One of the stories that stood out was the story about child slavery. One of the Journey for Change ambassadors named Benjamin Goode read a story about how he saw a slave boat with 5 child slave boys working in the fishing industry on Lake Volta in Kete-Krachi. He read how he was able to negotiate with the slave masters to free one of the boys. He was also able to talk to the owner of the slave boat. Benjamin asked the slave owner why he was doing what he was doing. He didn’t get an answer. Benjamin asked him to free the boys, and the owner said he wasn’t freeing the boys. Hearing what Benjamin said was breathtaking. I couldn’t believe it. He made me think that I can go to Ghana and make a change. I would like to go to Ghana so I would be able to free some of the child slaves. I would also like to go to Ghana so I can teach the people of Ghana our traditions and so they can teach me their traditions and see if their are similarities. Although our cultures are different we can learn from each other.

This Year Bad Winter Season by Kaela Jones

I do think global warming is the reason why we had a bad winter and extreme weather. When I say that weather was extreme I mean you can be hot one day then freezing the next day. The seasons seem long. the winter season lasted longer than it needed to. We got alot of snow and hail when winter should have been over. Another example is the highs and the lows are not the same years ago before we got global warming. In the spring time we should at least be in the 70 or 80 but we are in the low 50 and 60. Also the ice caps are melting at a fast pace and there is no breeding room for polar bears. And if there is no room for polar bears they are going to become extinct. In addition to the ice caps they are affecting other places. A lot of people died and many people lost there home in New Orleans where hurricane Katrina hit. A lot of people died too and many pepole lost their homes. Some people lived and some people died.  Flood waters reached levels that covered entirely houses

When it comes to keeping the planet clean and green I personally pick up trash outside infront of my house. I also encourage my family to recycle. Part of my advocacy is to go around in our community to pick up trash and clean up our streets. We pick up trash and tell people to do the same. We do it so  the world can become a better place. If I see my friends or family members litter I tell them the consequences it has on the world and what can happen if we dont stop littering.

Kaela Jones’ Thoughts About Cathy Black, The Ex-NYC’s School Chancelor

I think in a way people do have the right to be upset with Mayor Bloomberg and his decision to choose Cathy Black as school chancellor. I say this because Cathy Black has no experience with the New York City school system. She has her own children in private school. That to me says that she doesn’t believe in the public school system at all. If she didn’t even put her own children in public school what is she trying to say about the education that the children in public school get? Is
she saying that its not good enough for her children? Because if that’s the case then she shouldn’t have anything to do with the school system at all. Her former job didn’t even have anything to do with education at all. She also has no compassion for the parents. She once said that if the parents were to go on
birth control then there wouldn’t be overcrowding in public schools. I also think
that people don’t have the right to be upset because she could probably bring something different to the job. Because her children go to private school she might know how to use some of their ways of doing things to help the school system. There may be a chance that she could bring something new to the table.

I think that what’s wrong with the school system is most of the teachers are not making the work interesting to children. Most of my friends say that school is boring. When I was younger I loved to go to school because I never knew what my teachers would do on that day. I was excited to learn, they made learning fun. Now that I’m in the eighth grade I wish that my teachers would make more of the work we learn fun. I went to different open houses for high schools and one of them stood out because they use theatre to teach social studies. The teachers dress up in costumes of the era and speak in the language of the time it was so cool. And I know that I’ll remember the lesson because it would be like I was really there.
If they could make learning fun more children would want to go to school and
they will do better and graduate.

Kaela Jones on the Public Outcry for Gun Control

I think that there should be better gun control laws because a lot of innocent people are getting hurt and many even die from gun related injuries. It is usually the innocent bystanders that are the ones that get hurt, not the people that the shooting is intended for. My mom always says “bullets have no name or sense of direction”. If there were consequences for people owning guns, maybe people wouldn’t want to own them anymore. I also think there should be better laws because owing guns are dangerous. There are a lot of people that have guns.  Guns are just creating violence. I think that we should give rewards to people if they turn in their guns to the police.

Given the Revolution in Egypt, How Does Kaela Jones Feel about Living in a Democracy?

I think it is important to live in a democracy because not everyone is going to have the same views or feelings about our government.  Living in a democracy allows people to be individuals. Democracy allows people  to voice their views or concerns. For example we have elections to choose who we want to represent the United States. The people who choose who they want to be leader don’t have to feel that they will be punished if they don’t think or feel the way the dictator feels. Also I don’t think it is fair to punish other people because they think or they feel differently from the dictator. I also think it is important because if people live under a dictatorship none of their opinions will be heard.  When living under a democracy you can vote for what you believe in or what you want to happen. For example if there was a particular law that was voted into congress but the law had flaws, the people could lobby to get them to change the law. But when you are living under a dictatorship you can’t decide on what you believe in, you are told what to believe. you can’t debate on what you think is right, you have no choice but to go with it. But when deciding to live under a democracy you can do the total opposite. I have the right of freedom. I can think and choose for myself. When the government has complete say over how things go they want to control every part of your life.  I’m happy to live in a democratic government because I have a voice and I want it to be heard.

Which Leader Inspires Kaela Jones the most?

The philanthropist that I look up to the most is Wyclef Jean. He inspires me because he has a good head on his shoulder and he is doing positive things with his life. Also, he is a positive male role model doing big things to help rebuild Haiti. Since he heard about the earthquake that hit Haiti hard, he’s been doing whatever he has to do to help the people of Haiti. He raised money, brought fresh water and food to them. Wyclef is very enthusiastic about helping the country that he came from. Wyclef decided to help because he saw a country that was in need and he took it upon himself to help them. Wyclef is passionate about building a new Haiti. He doesn’t want it to be known as a poor country.

I look up to him because no matter what negative things people said or is saying about Haiti he always sees the beauty in the country he came from. I am similar to Wyclef because when people only see the negative in things I bring out the positive. I don’t let what other people say influence what I think. When I feel strong about something I stay true to myself and I don’t let other people’s opinions change my mind.

This Local Issue Needs Attention by Kaela Jones

The local issue in my community that I care about the most is sex and teen pregnancy. I say that because many young girls think that they have to be or do something that they might not necessarily want to do to make the other person happy. They try to pretend to know things or have done things that they have no idea what they really are. Either they’re saying things that they might have heard someone else say or doing things that they might have seen on television. And then once it’s done you can’t go back and change it. And for most young girls the outcome is a pregnancy. Many of these young girls are babysitters for their younger sisters or brothers and they figure if they can babysit them then they can be parents.

My mom works at a gym clinic and she tells me stories of the young girls some of them my age that come in for a pregnancy test. Most of them turn out to be pregnant and they start laughing like it’s a joke. Many of them come in groups. I guess for support but they all take the test. Sometimes I go to my mom’s job after school and I see some of the girls come in and I want to ask them why are you having sex? You are so young. Don’t you have something else that is positive that you could get involved in? But I don’t. Maybe next time I will who knows.

That’s what I think is missing. There are not enough activities for the youth to get involved in. And the ones that are out here many families are not taking advantage of them. And if they wanted to go they might not be able to because they have to take care of their brothers or sisters. If they were able to be a part of something better they might make better choices.

What’s on Kaela’s Mind Today?

I think children today miss out on lots of opportunities because they don’t think about consequences to their actions. Most of them, me included always realize where we went wrong after the fact. I think that if we would think about it we would realize what we would be risking, we would make other choices. Many parents need to stop making excuses for their children when they are wrong. I say that because they don’t learn from their mistakes that way. Children should look at people who are doing positive things with their life or going in the right direction. These people often get over looked because they are not “popular”. But I’ve learned that popularity is not worth risking everything you have worked for. So far all these young people stay true to who you are and don’t waste opportunities.
