Should Professional Athletes and Musical Artists Considered Role Models? – Dara Hutchinson

I think professional athletes and musical artists should be role models to kids! Why because athletes inspire kids to play sports every day and eat healthy. Musical artists help kids like myself learn about the world music and to be better in school with math and reading, because you have to read the notes and count the beat.

To me a musical artist gets me more because I play steel pan at church/after-school. It helps me better in life if I’m mad or sad or just too happy playing it will calm me down from anything.

What Other African Country Would Dara Hutchinson Like to Visit?

I would like to visit West Africa! I think that West
and South Africa has different living conditions. If I ever go I would compare
my trip to South Africa. I believe somewhere deep in West Africa there is
something very different waiting to be seen by me! And I know that I would find
it and share it with everyone.

Dara Hutchinson’s Thoughts About Cathy Black, Ex NYC’s School Chancelor

I think people should have a right to be upset. Cathy Black never worked in the school system before so why would she start now? School Chancellor is a big job where that person have to handle every thing and who represents the Department of Education. In my opinion I do agree with the upset people and I would be more happier if someone who worked in the school system became Chancellor than Cathy Black.

What I think is wrong with NYC Public Schools is that they ALL are not equality treated right.  The steps in which needed to be taken to make them stronger and get the graduate more successful students would be to HELP kids ONE on ONE. The teachers should help them day and night like how the program where you have big sister or brother to help kids feel better. Well I think that is what
students need to be better in school.

Dara Hutchinson on the Public Outcry for Gun Control

I do think that gun control laws should be better everywhere!

I believe that the age limit of owning and or perusing should be change
from 21 to 25 years old. Whoever is seen with an illegal gun will have to face
strict jail time and sentence. Helping this issue is my goal! No one would be
scared to walk the streets of their homes ever again.

What Social Problem Would Dara Hutchinson Try to Solve If She Had $1 Million?

If I was given $1 million to combat any problem in the world it would be to teach people to “Go-Green” and to be healthy. Half of the money would go toward educating them on how to be environmentally friendly. For example, I would show them how to keep public parks and beaches clean and how to maintain them.  The final outcome would be a clean environment with fewer diseases.

What Leader Inspires Dara Hutchinson the Most?

The person I look up to is my big brother. He and I had a conversation about history. He is a educated man. In our conversation we talked about what I know relating to the United States before I was born. Our last conversation was on what I’m learning now at school about World War I. My brother is a smart man. Even when my attitude is not up to speed he will try and fix that and also help my mom build me into a strong young lady. Now he is teaching me to be ready for high school by giving me good life skills.  I also love my brother as a friend because he is the coolest friend I have.  He is very supportive of our mother and he really knows how to make his little sister happy.

This Local Issue Needs Attention by Dara Hutchinson

The local issue that I think about the most in my community is gang violence. The reason why this issue is so important is that people every day are getting shot, injured and killed. Young men my age are joining gangs, they believe by having their pants below their waist makes them cool.

The men in my community are setting a bad bad examples, because by the time we as kids get older there will be more and more violence. What I think needs to be done ……. well they need to have more and more police officers and cameras where they can watch what is going wrong.

What’s on Dara’s Mind Today?

HALO AWARDS

December 10th, 2010 was the day that I found out my fellow Journey for Change ambassador Joshua Hall was one of four honorees to receive a HALO award by Nick Cannon. Also Joshua and Ashton Kutcher had the same work saving kids from child slavery and child sex slavery. I was very touched about how Nick Cannon found a celebrity that does the same kind of job like the kids, in that way they can connect and talk about how and what they plan to do to stop child slavery.

Also I’m happy Nick Cannon sees how JOURNEY FOR CHANGE 1 & 2 make a difference around the world and awarded one of us with the HALO award. That makes me feel that people are shining the light on us and I hope that one day we will be back on TV to answer any question people have about us.

Why So Many Americans Are Suffering Economically Today – Dara’s Opinion

I think the reason why so many people are suffering economically is because of poor spending, poor business, and the loss of jobs. What I think our government should do is to make things a little fair for people so at least everyone can get a good paying job. Also make sure and focus on the people who need help to get back on their feet. They have a lot of bills to pay and the price for everything is high. If the government does this everything will work out fine in years to come.

Washington, DC – Dara’s Experience

My trip to DC was so amazing. I visited so many places. When we arrived in Washington DC I was very excited and a little sleepy. I had two meetings: One with Congresswoman Yvette Clark and the other with Congressman Elijah Cummings. The Congresswoman talked about how she never thought she would become a Congresswoman and she also gave us advice about how we can improve getting people tested for HIV/AIDS. Congressman Cummings told us about his childhood and he also said that we were not the future, we were the NOW. He also said other inspiring words such as I am chosen and I am special. He also asked us to think about, “What is the enemy of my destiny?” The next day I went to the Bureau of Engraving and Printing and for a tour of Capitol Hill. The Bureau of Engraving and Printing is very interesting because it is where the money is made. On the tour of Capitol Hill, I was so happy to be in a place where the government works and pass laws. My favorite part was visiting the White House.
