Sydney Smart on the Public Outcry for Gun Control

If the privilege of gun use is going to be expressed in the manner of killing a Congresswomen Gabrielle Giffords, then guns should be prohibited. This event reminds me of the Columbine tragic event, and what Missouri under went with bare arms legislations. If someone could be shot in a rally of course there should be strict enforcement on guns. It’s not fair for a citizen to be scared for their life to the point they want to own a gun. Personally I would report the felon to the authorities, and co-operate on an anti-bare arm petition.

Given the Recent Situation in Egypt, How Does Sydney Smart Feel About Living in a Democracy?

I have been watching and following the boycott and protest for several days when it started, and I am really proud for the civilians in Egypt. Personally, I think the system of democracy is a really inspirational and powerful system because citizens should have their fair voice in their government. I am appreciative of such privileges and freedoms of: Legal system, freedom of speech, religion, education, a justice system etc. Also the Egyptian civilians’ accomplishment is major and I think they’ve given a strong encouragement to other dictatorship nations.

Why President Obama’s Message isn’t Connecting With The American People? – Sydney’s Idea

I personally feel this is a complicated matter among the American public and it’s not docile to make a conclusion from everyone’s perceptions. However, my personal opinion is that the “democratic” name is being spread maliciously to the American public. I’ve noticed news broadcastings don’t share as much vital information about President Obama.  Frivolous rumors are being spread, most untrue and the President’s image is being rampaged. Secondly, President Obama and his cabinet have been facing such huge decisions and the public doesn’t consider the benefits of his choices. If I was President Obama, I would talk to the youth and elders through transmittable ways: twitter, facebook, broadcastings. Connect, evaluate a radio station or network like Bloomberg and just spread the news thoroughly from his mouth.

Facebook Donated $100 Millions to Newark Public Schools – Sydney’s Reaction

Well, congrats to New Jersey with this generous donation; the school system really needed it. I suppose this donation can be used for stationary equipment (pencils, textbooks etc.), but what I really would encourage is scholarships to the students. Predominantly in impoverished areas where children are struggling and are at risk. Public schools catering to colored families aren’t giving nor getting the care and benefits they should be getting. Unprepared and inexperienced teachers are hired and it affects the children and the community. Everyone should be granted a safe, thriving and caring environment and I recommend the money should go to the students’ future fully.

HIV/AIDS Awareness – Sydney’s Perspective

Well, as a young person growing up, I think it is personally vital for me and others to understand important health risks and diseases. Journey for Change ambassadors are aware that the statistics on HIV/AIDS are exceptionally high at staggering rates. As following, the youth of NY could be exploited to these preventable transmitted diseases.  The only way we can fight it is through education, so I encourage myself and others to warn friends and spread the truth about HIV/AIDS. Only with education we can fight the disease, save people and reach our goal of eradicating the spread of HIV/AIDS from mother to child by the year 2015.

Sydney’s Personal and Professional Goals

In a year I see myself in 10th grade still in high school, however having the highest GPA in my class. I’m wishing I don’t have any distractions that could affect my future and career.

In five years I will be about 20, in college and choosing a career that I’ll love to pursue. I would be financially empowered and there wouldn’t be anything in the world I couldn’t do.

In ten years I want to be working on my Masters degree, enjoying life, and feeling accomplished and proud of myself. I don’t want my life in the future to be hard. By thirty I would like to be settled down, have a “life”, and travel the world.
